Modeling the dynamics of Lassa fever in Nigeria

چکیده
Abstract Lassa fever is a zoonotic disease spread by infected rodents known as multimammate rats. The has posed significant and major health challenge in West African countries, including Nigeria. To have deeper understanding of epidemiology Nigeria, we present deterministic dynamical model to study its transmission behavior the population. mimic disease’s biological history, divide population into two groups: humans rodents. We established quantity reproduction number $${\mathcal {R}}_{0}$$ R 0 . results show that if {R}}_{0} <1$$ < 1 then system stable, otherwise it unstable. fitting was performed using nonlinear least square method on cumulative reported cases from Nigeria between 2018 2020 obtain best fit describes dynamics this In addition, sensitivity analysis performed, numerical solution derived an iterative scheme, fifth-order Runge–Kutta method. Using different numeric values for each parameter, investigate effect all highest indices’ parameters Our findings indicate any control strategies methods reduce rodent populations risk would aid population’s fever.

To the Editor: Lassa fever affects ≈100,000 persons per year in West Af-rica (1). The disease is caused by Las-sa virus, an arenavirus, and is associated with bleeding and organ failure. The case-fatality rate in hospitalized patients is 10%–20%. The reservoir of the virus is multimammate mice (Mastomys natalensis). Investigations in the 1970s and 1980s pointed to the existence of 3 disease-end...

The patient was successfully extubated. He was transferred to a pneumology ward on day 9 and discharged on day 15. Antimicrobial treatment was stopped on day 10. Most nonhuman strains of V. metschnikovii are usually found in aquatic habitats (e.g., lakes and marine waters). Human clinical infections with this bacterium are rare; however, cases of epidemic diarrhea caused by V. metschnikovii hav...

Background: Lassa fever is an acute, virulent viral haemorrhagic illness with high morbidity and mortality rates. Its awareness remain low in sub urban or rural community. This study was carried out to assess the awareness of Lassa fever of a rural community in the south western part of Nigeria. Methodology: A descriptive cross sectional study of 122 respondents prior to a sensitization semina...

Lassa virus, an Old World arenavirus (family Arenaviridae), is the etiological agent of Lassa fever, a severe human disease that is reported in more than 100,000 patients annually in the endemic regions of West Africa with mortality rates for hospitalized patients varying between 5-10%. Currently, there are no approved vaccines against Lassa fever for use in humans. Here, we review the publishe...
